The Importance of Asking Questions in Relationships with Angel Haynes

SHOW NOTES: Episode 15

Welcome back to the Relationships Unraveled Podcast! On today’s episode, I am joined by Angel Haynes. Angel is a pastor and fellow graduate student at Wheaton College. Today we are talking about the importance of asking questions and how to navigate this in real-life situations.

In today’s episode, we discuss the significance of asking questions in conversations and how it can truly enhance listening skills. We suggest that instead of leading with questions, it’s actually better to follow with questions. This allows you to ask questions based off of something the person just said which shows genuine curiosity and interest in the person you are speaking with. This also helps you become a better listener.

Angel shares how Proverbs 18:2 helps her which states, “A fool finds no pleasure in the understanding but delights in airing their own opinion” She explains how this verse changed her perspective and how we can keep it in mind when asking questions as well. Another thing she suggests to keep in mind would be that when you are reading the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John) in the Bible, write down all of Jesus’ questions. This will help you gain a deep understanding of Jesus and how he interacted with people.

Asking questions helps you gain understanding into the lives of others and build deeper relationships and grow in discipleship.
